Frequently asked questions.

Here's what we get asked a lot. If you have more questions, please feel free to reach out.

How do you ensure that AI solutions are tailored to our specific industry needs?

Humility is a key ingredient to successful innovation in complex industries. So we start by listening and gaining a deep understanding of your industry, your specific challenges, and your goals. Our multi-disciplinary team has deep knowledge of physics, engineering, medicine, economics, policy making, and other key areas of relevance. This enables us to work closely with your subject matter experts to develop AI solutions that are not only innovative, but also compliant with your industry's regulatory and operational standards.

What is your approach to integrating AI into existing workflows?

Our approach focuses on seamless integration into your existing system, ensuring minimal disruption to your current operations. We work with your team to understand your current processes and identify areas where AI can add the most value. This includes customising AI models and ensuring interoperability with your current systems. Where appropriate, we will suggest adaptations to enable your infrastructure for a scalable, data-driven business. However, we understand that change has far-reaching implications and often needs to be gradual and carefully considered. We often start with a lighthouse project, designed to be a seed for a larger transformation later on.

Can you help us develop AI solutions if we have limited in-house AI expertise?

Yes, we specialise in helping organisations with limited AI experience. We provide comprehensive support, from basic AI training for your team to fully managed AI solutions, ensuring you can use AI effectively without the need for extensive in-house expertise. At the same time, we aim to enable your team to become largely independent of external support.

How do you handle projects where the data is complex and not well structured?

We excel at working with complex and unstructured data. Our team uses advanced data processing techniques, including data enrichment and multimodal AI, to clean, structure and analyse data to ensure accurate and actionable insights. However, a common heuristic is that 90% of a good data project is in getting the data right. We use our expertise in science and engineering to review the sensors and ground truth data you are using, and their suitability for the use cases you have in mind. There's still too much magical thinking around AI - we're here to demystify it for you.

What kind of ongoing support do you provide after the AI solution is implemented?

Our support doesn't stop with implementation. If required, we can provide ongoing monitoring, maintenance and updates to ensure your AI solution remains effective and compliant with evolving regulations. We also provide training and support to enable your team to manage the solution independently over time. But we're also happy to help you get started and then let you take it from there. Whatever works best for you works for us.

How do you manage the risks associated with AI, particularly in high-risk industries?

We take a safety-first approach, focusing on explainability, compliance and rigorous testing. Let's face it: nobody loves documentation, but it's a prerequisite for successful innovation. In fact, we believe that real innovation isn't about thinking outside the box, it's about unleashing creativity within tight constraints that we can't change. It requires a deep understanding of the laws, regulations and unspoken rules of the industry. We know how to build AI models that are transparent and understandable, helping you to meet all the necessary regulatory standards and minimise the risks to your business. We recommend speaking with your regulatory experts early in the process so that we can align with their processes and focus on meeting their requirements from the outset.

How do you ensure that our AI investment delivers measurable ROI?

We're impact-driven and business-minded. We believe that too many decision makers want AI for AI's sake, looking for a few shiny bells and whistles to add to their product pitches. If that's what you're looking for, we're not for you. If we don't see an opportunity to add truly meaningful value to your products and services with AI, we'll have an honest conversation with you about it very early on. Life is too short to chase ghosts, and we all have real opportunities to chase instead. But when we see big opportunities, we will focus on outcome-driven development, aligning AI initiatives with your business objectives from the outset. We will work with you to implement success metrics and KPIs that allow us to track progress and make adjustments as needed to ensure your AI investment delivers tangible results.

How do you ensure AI solutions are user friendly?

We start with the user. We prioritise human-centred design and human factors engineering to ensure that AI solutions are intuitive and easy to use. By involving end-users in the design process from day one, we create solutions that are not only technically advanced, but also easy to adopt and use. We hate generalisations like "you have to be radically patient-centric" and instead try to understand the complex interplay between different stakeholders (e.g. looking at the needs of doctors, carers, nurses, etc.). And then we try to prioritise features to address the most important unmet needs of your users.

How do you keep our project on track and on budget?

We work on the project step by step, avoiding big commitments from day one. We do this by using a disciplined, phased approach to project management that focuses on lean methodologies that are industry standard, even in DeepTech entrepreneurship. This ensures that we tackle the highest risk areas first and proceed in manageable, well-defined steps, keeping your project on time and on budget - and daring to kill projects as early as possible if we find that key assumptions are not working as required, thus avoiding throwing good money after bad.

Can you help us navigate the regulatory landscape for AI in our industry?

Absolutely. We have deep expertise in regulatory compliance, particularly in highly regulated industries such as healthcare and environmental sciences. We ensure that your AI solution complies with all relevant regulations and help you navigate complex regulatory landscapes with confidence. However, regulatory compliance is a collective responsibility and effort. We need to work closely with your hardware and software team, the regulatory experts, and you will likely need legal advice on top of that. You can expect us to work smoothly with all these functions because we've done it many times before.
