Turning breath into insights
At Halitus, we’re passionate about building diagnostic technology that frees humanity from debilitating diseases. We aim to make diseases, from COPD to cancer, detectable within less than a minute in a convenient and non-invasive manner. If you get excited about shaping a future of healthcare that is proactive, intuitive to use, sustainable, and cost-effective, we'd love for you to join us. We’re an award-winning, purpose-driven Berlin-based deep tech Start-up led by engineers and a doctor, supported by Roche’s RoX and backed by renowned investors.
The role
We're looking for a multidisciplinary communications designer and strategist to take charge of Halitus’ branding and communicate Halitus’ work and values. This role is an opportunity to embed deeply in a unique medical deep tech Start-up with a highly technical environment and a grand vision for a healthier society.
You are responsible for establishing and upholding Halitus’ brand standards in direct collaboration with the CEO and providing solutions for a broad set of design and content needs across the company. You’re the visual storyteller for branding, marketing, presentations, and events. You ensure a steady presence in different types of the press: general and specialist audiences (e.g., healthcare, tech, start-ups).
Essentially, we need a self-starting creative who can take ownership of their projects and deliver outcomes while balancing competing priorities in collaboration with team members, project directors, third-party vendors, and company leadership. It’s clear that you will not be doing every communication task by yourself but will partially need to work with freelancers whenever specialist expertise is needed. As the company grows, you will also build your own team of diverse experts. However, we don’t believe in people who only pride themselves of giving inspiration and leaving the execution to others. We love doers who take accountability end-to-end.
In summary, you can be the one who shapes the developing brand of an impact-driven start-up from start to scale.
Core responsibilities
Your mandate is broad: in this role, you'll work on projects that span internal, external, and client communications as you contribute to the development of Halitus’ national and global communications strategies.
You're responsible for creating everything from press copy to diagrams that explain our technology and the science behind it to videos that tell our most important stories. This, of course, does not mean that you will be asked to do all of that by yourself, but on top of the strategic work, you will be expected to create compelling texts for our webpage, product, press, and social media — and ideally also for speeches and filmed content.
For other tasks, especially visuals, we need you to identify adequate outsourcing or insourcing strategies and guide other creatives to deliver on brand, on time, on budget, and at consistent quality.
Working directly with the CEO, you will establish the cultural and branding foundations of Halitus, which honours medicine’s inventive history and legacy of courageous innovators who have improved the lives of billions. Above all, Halitus stands for increasing the healthy lifespan of all and freeing humanity from debilitating diseases.
You will create genuinely inclusive and welcoming communication channels and styles that are charming and meaningful to different audiences, including medical professionals, engineers, public sector leaders, and the general public, including patients.
It will be up to you to prioritise all these different tasks and tackle them in different working sprints that you scope and lead.
Typical tasks include:
Operational (Company)
Establishing and monitoring Halitus’ social media channels, especially LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.

Creating of static and motion content (e.g. filming and post-production) for social media and others.
Evolving the webpage into a loveable source of information that reflects the company’s brand identity and adds true value to its visitors.
Monitoring the web for relevant mentionings of Halitus.
Establishing a data-driven approach to testing the effectiveness of various communication channels against one another (e.g. solicited feedback, social media analysis, etc.). Data and analytics are in our DNA!

Supporting the creation of easy-to-understand product guides and tutorials.
Creating supporting documents for our clinical trials to inform and engage doctors, nurses, and participants.
Collecting and sharing salient user stories to increase the awareness.

Creating advertising material (copy and visuals) for the product.

Supporting the founders with storytelling guidelines and speech notes for public events.

Engaging with the community via social media on behalf of the company and leadership.
Driving the personal brand of the founders in their respective domains of expertise.
Creating and regular review of the company’s Culture and Values Guidelines.
Requirements, education, and skills
Candidates should be able to demonstrate a variety of creative styles and methodologies, with proven experience and examples from past work.
A generalist with leadership capabilities. We don’t want a pure strategist but a person who can define a compelling vision and strategy and has the drive and skill to execute it.
Relevant bachelor’s degree.
3+ years of relevant industry experience.
Strong growth mindset.
Ability to lead freelancers, working students, and in the future (starting from Series A) build, lead, and develop an interdisciplaniry communications team.
Training or experience in branding, marketing, social media management (we don’t need any social media ads or search engine marketing at this stage),
Proven communications experience incl. copywriting involving technology products, preferably experience with artificial intelligence or healthcare.
Ability to work closely with technical teammates such as software engineers and product designers to understand, translate, and communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Strong judgment and discretion, and an ability to handle sensitive information.
Ability to navigate in a largely unstructured environment – we’re a dynamic company, and you’ll wear many hats.
Agile mindset that understands when a sufficient level of quality is reached and when perfectionism is required.
You should be based in Berlin, but hybrid work is possible.
We consider the following skills a plus (but we can also outsource that for now):
Visual design skills.
Photography and filming skills (for social media content).
Experience working with speakers to develop talks and presentation decks.
